Gene Sanders Memorial Scholarship

Gene was one of the most popular coaches of any sport to ever reside in Otsego County, as he coached girls’ soccer at the high school varsity, junior varsity and youth travel levels. Gene, owner of Hogan’s Jewelers, died on September 3rd, 2010.

“He called soccer his passion,” said Betsy Sanders, his wife. “He just had a desire to see the girls excel. He felt like academics were the ticket for these students and was proudest when his teams made Academic All-State. I know he would be very pleased with this scholarship in his name.”

To qualify for the scholarship, you must be a female Gaylord High School Soccer Player,  with a 3.25 grade point or higher, with plans to continue their education at a college, university or trade school during the fall of their graduating year.

Applications will be available at  www.otsegofoundation.org and at Gaylord High School. The Otsego County Community Foundation will decide who receives the scholarship and administer the funds from Gaylord Soccer League.

Gaylord Soccer League will accept any donations for the scholarship fund. You can email [email protected] for more information.
